Some Information on Other Florida Sinkholes
 Every year in Florida, new sinkholes emerge swallowing homes and damaging property and changing the landscape.
A sinkhole on your property is certainly a traumatic event, but hopefully you will never experience the scope of some of Florida's largest sinkholes.
Below is a list of some of Florida's more notable sinkholes:
- Lake Jackson Sinkhole – opening in 1999, the sinkhole swallowed Lake Jackson's water, fish and alligators, depositing them in the aquifer below in just a few days time. Lake Jackson is known as the disappearing lake as it has disappeared at least four times since 1907.
- Blue Grotto is one of the largest cavities in Florida, reaching depths of 100 feet in places. It has been turned into a place for diving enthusiasts.
- Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site – formed when an underground cavern collapsed, this huge sinkhole is 120 feet deep.
- Peacock Springs State Recreation Area – sporting six sinkholes and numerous small sinks and depressions within the 252 acre area, Peacock Springs is actually an island formed over 1,000 years ago.
- In 1981 a giant crater developed in Winter Park, Florida, swallowing a house, several cars, parts of two businesses, a community pool and a section of road, all within three days.
- In May 2009 a large sinkhole swallowed a house in Spring Hill, Florida, causing $250,000 damage.
